LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

What is LEED?

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings developed by United States Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health, sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Is Qu-Cork a LEED Certified Product?

USGBC does not certify, promote, or endorse products or services of individual companies, products, and services. Therefore, there are no LEED Certified Products.

How does Qu-Cork Flooring Panels Contribute LEED Credits?

Individual products can contribute building project credits based on prerequisites and performance benchmarks by category. Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve.

What Credits do Qu-Cork Flooring Panels Contribute?

Materials and Resources – MR

  • MR 4.1 = 1 Credit: Recycled Content = 10% (post-consumer and one-half per-consumer)
  • MR 4.2 = 1 Credit: Recycled Content = 20% (post-consumer and one-half per-consumer)
  • MR 6 = 1 Credit: Use Rapidly Renewable Resource = Typical harvest of less than 10 Years

Indoor Air Quality – EQ

  • EQ 4.4 = 1 Credit: Low-Emitting Materials, Wood or agrifiber products

Innovation Design Process – ID

  • ID Process = 1-4 Credits: Additional Points for exceptional performance above LEED Requires. The natural characteristics of cork reduce sound and noise transmission, insulation qualities improve the effectiveness of heating and cooling, and reduce vibrations of mechanical equipment. Some or all these characteristics may qualify for innovation credits.

NOTE: ALL INFORMATION IS OUR INTERPRETION OF THE LEED GUIDELINES PROVIDED BY USGBC. THE LEED RATING SYSTEM WAS CREATED TO TRANSFORM THE BUILDING ENVIRONMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY BY PROVIDING CONSISTENT, CREDIBILE STANDARDS FOR WHAT CONSTITUES A GREEN BUILDING. THE RATINGS SYSTEM IS DEVELOPED AND CONTINUOUSLY REFINED VIA AN OPEN, CONSENSUS-BASED PROCESS. EACH PROJECT IS CONSIDERED ON ITS OWN MERIT IN REGARD TO LEED CREDITS. THEREFORE, PLEASE CONSULT THE USGBC WEBSITE www.usgbc.org FOR THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION.
